According to a report in the Mirror, Liverpool are eyeing a sensational £37 million move for Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze after being put on alert over his situation.
The German World Cup winner hasn’t featured all too regularly for Pep Guardiola’s side, making just seven Bundesliga appearances this season with one start in the Champions League.
With increased competition in Munich, Gotze could be tempted by a switch away from the club and speculation has already begun regarding a potential linkup with his former boss Jurgen Klopp.
Fjortoft, however, rules out a January move but does leave the door open to a potential switch in the summer following Gotze’s latest statement, writing on social networking site Twitter.
And this is not a NO! Guess Liverpool- fans still can hope. Not in this window though... https://t.co/aoBDIxZbMP— Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) enero 8, 2016
Liverpool are desperately short of genuine top class players and there is no doubt the former Borussia Dortmund favourite falls into that category, despite his struggles at the Allianz Arena.
The Reds’ attacking trio of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino have vastly underperformed this season, with the latter two scoring just one league goal combined.
In order for the Anfield outfit to once again challenge for a Premier League title, a squad overhaul and injection of real quality is needed and Gotze would represent a fine start.
