Jack Grealish has been linked with the likes of Derby County, QPR and Leeds United.
Jack Grealish has not been enjoying the greatest season with Aston Villa.
Personal issues have clouded his campaign, and his on pitch performances have hardly been earning rave reviews either. Despite being tipped to play a key role with Villa prior to the start of the campaign, he has managed just nine Premier League starts, scoring one goal and failing to register an assist in those appearances.
With the January transfer window opening, Grealish has been tipped to leave Villa Park, with the Daily Mail claiming that Leeds United, QPR and Derby County all want to sign the playmaker on loan.
Many Villa fans would rue such a move, but with their relegation to the Championship all-but guaranteed, it could be wise preparation ahead of next season.
Villa need players with Championship experience ahead of next season, and it already looks as if they are writing off this season as a means to rebuild ahead of next term.
Grealish is sure to be a key figure for the club next year, but with no Championship experience to his name, he could leave on loan and spend the rest of this season getting used to the rigours of the division.
A club like Derby, who are pushing for promotion, makes the most sense, given that their situation this year is likely to be similar to Villa’s next year.
A run of games in a lower division could also help Grealish rediscover his form, and with a series of good performances, rebuild his reputation. He is no longer been looked upon as the saviour of Aston Villa, and the best way to prove he is willing to keep playing for the club would be by putting extra work in on a loan spell.
With the state Villa are in, they may as well write their season off and start preparing for next term, and loaning Grealish out to Derby, Leeds or QPR makes a lot of sense if the club want the best chance in the Championship next season.
