The Swansea City midfielder has been linked with moves to Newcastle United and Crystal Palace.
“But he’s still a decent player. Crystal Palace maybe, but will he play at Palace every week, I’m not sure. It’s hard, I could tick clubs off.”
The midfielder has been linked with an exit from struggling Swansea in the January transfer window, with Crystal Palace and Newcastle United thought to be fighting for his signature, according to the Daily Mail.
That is because he has found himself out of the Swansea first-team in recent weeks, with the sacking of former manager Garry Monk seeing him lose his starting place.
His form at the beginning of the campaign will have caught the attention of several clubs, but Merson says he does not know where the player could end up.
“I think he’s a good player,” he told Soccer Saturday.
“I don’t know whereabouts [he’ll end up]. Maybe West Brom? I don’t see him being top six, back to a Liverpool standard.”
What is certain is that Shelvey will be determined to move if he cannot get a place back in the Swansea first-team.
His form at the beginning of the campaign saw him earn an England chance and impress, and with Euro 2016 in the summer he will determined to be playing to try to ensure he is on the plane to France.
That will surely see him push for a move to maintain his chance, although where he will end up, remains to be seen.
