Roberto Martinez concerned by Seamus Coleman's injury at Everton

Seamus Coleman could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, which is a blow for Everton.

Roberto Martinez has told the Liverpool Echo that he believes Everton defender Seamus Coleman’s injury to his calf could be a serious one.

Coleman was one of three Everton players who were forced off with injury before full time during their 2-1 win over Manchester City last night.

Tom Cleverley and Romelu Lukaku also limped off in the tie, but Martinez is most concerned about Coleman’s problem.

“Romelu had a knock on his ankle," he said. "We are going to assess him. I don’t know if he will be available for the weekend but I don’t think it is too serious. Tom and Seamus is similar, Seamus with his calf is probably the most serious.”

Everton ended up finishing their match against City with just 10 men on the field, due to their series of injury problems.

If Cleverley, Lukaku and Coleman are all due for spells on the sidelines, then it will test Everton’s squad depth.

The trio are all hugely important players for the Toffees, and they are established members of the starting line up at Goodison Park.

Lukaku is Everton’s top scorer this season, while Coleman is regarded as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League.

Everton’s next match comes against Dagenham & Redbridge in the FA Cup, meaning there is not too much pressure to rush them all back for the weekend.
