Report: Stoke City leading race for 'next Michael Essien' Didier Ndong of Lorient

Stade De Lorient

The Potters are on the hunt for Didier Ndong.

It is being reported by the press in France that Stoke City could be about to make a move for Didier Ndong of FC Lorient.

The report comes from Foot Mercato in France - who claim that Stoke City are one of a number of Premier League teams interested in the player.

Ndong is a Gabonese international who only joined his current club in 2015 after four years playing for CS Sfaxien in the Tunisian top flight.

He impressed in North Africa and has been at Lorient for a year now and has earned big plaudits for his performances in French football.

Stoke would be getting a player whom Lorient vice-president Alex Hayes told The Independent is the 'next Michael Essien' - although his hair makes him look more like a young Alex Song - so we are talking about a talented young man here.

Ndong has played 18 times this season and scored two goals for the club as he continues to catch the eye with his all action midfield displays in Brittany.

Stoke have earned a reputation for some surprising deals lately but they still need to unearth the odd gem.

Ndong might just be that man.
