Report: Aston Villa lining up January move for Benjamin Moukandjo

Aston Villa are looking towards Ligue 1 for new signings.

Aston Villa are lining up a move for Benjamin Moukandjo of Lorient, L’Equipe reports.

The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances this season, impressing as the replacement for current Villa star Jordan Ayew.

Moukandjo was signed by the club from Stade de Reims over the summer when Ayew left for Villa Park, and is leading the club’s scoring charts.

Renowned for his pace on the ball and his dribbling skills, Villa scouts have continued to search France, and clearly believe that Moukandjo is the player who can help them out their current mire.

Remi Garde severely needs to add a goalscoring threat to his side, and Moukandjo looks to certainly fit the bill.

The report claims that Villa have a serious interest in the striker - who can also play on either wing - but it is not likely that a deal will be possible.

It is stated that Lorient have absolutely no desire to sell Moukandjo this month, with his goalscoring form making him a key player in their ranks. Only a sizeable offer could potentially tempt the Ligue 1 outfit into sanctioning the 27-year-old’s departure before the close of the transfer window.
