According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are prepared to raise their bid for Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost.
Newcastle bid £9 million for Dost in the summer, but their attempts to sign the striker were rebuffed by Wolfsburg.
At that stage, Newcastle simply looked elsewhere - and went on to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht instead.
However, after a disastrous start, the Magpies have realised the importance of signing a clinical striker and they have put Dost back on their radar again.
The rangy forward has netted 10 goals in 26 matches this season, which adds to the 19 strikes he scored last term.
Newcastle understand they will have to pay an eight-figure fee to bring Dost in, but they are prepared to do so.
The Magpies have already been rejected by Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, but they are hopeful that Dost will be more open to a move to St. James’ Park, despite their lowly position in the Premier League.
