Former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (January 1) that he has been impressed with Sheffield Wednesday so far this season.
“One of my little teams of the season is Sheffield Wednesday,” said Wilkins about Wednesday ahead of last weekend’s game against Fulham.
“They have crept themselves up into seventh. They have been absolutely magnificent. They knocked Arsenal out of the Capital One Cup and haven’t looked back since.”
Wednesday are having a superb season and are on course to finishing in the top six of the Championship.
The Owls are seventh in the league table at the moment with 39 points from 25 matches. Carlos Carvalhal’s side are just two points behind Ipswich Town, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
Back in October, Wednesday got the better of Premier League giants Arsenal 3-0 at the Hillsborough Stadium in the fourth round of the League Cup.
The Owls, who defeated Fulham 1-0 away from home at Craven Cottage in the Championship last weekend, will face Fulham at home in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon. Carvalhal’s side will then take on Bolton Wanderers at home in the league.
