Ray Wilkins explains why Tottenham shouldn’t sign a striker in January

Do Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a striker in the January transfer window?

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (January 1) that Tottenham Hotspur should not sign a striker in the January transfer window.

The former Aston Villa assistant manager wants Tottenham to promote a striker from within the youth team.

“They could certainly do with another striker, but I would love to see them use one of their own,” said Wilkins.

Tottenham are in the running for the Premier League title this season and are fourth in the table at the moment. Spurs are just six points behind leaders and North London rivals Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are aiming for the league title, but they have only one striker in form.

Harry Kane has been scoring goals in recent weeks, and he will be important for Tottenham for the rest of the season.

An injury to the England international striker could be a problem for Spurs, who currently have no readymade replacement for him.

Signing a striker in the January transfer window would make sense for Tottenham, as it would be a gamble to promote a youngster from within in the middle of the season.
