Nottingham Forest and Wolves eye Fleetwood's McLaughlin

HITC Sport understands the Northern Ireland defender is a target for several Championship sides.

A number of Championship clubs are tracking Fleetwood and Northern Ireland defender Conor McLaughlin, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

McLaughlin has established himself as one of the best attacking full-backs outside the top two leagues with a number of impressive performances for club and country over the last 12 months.

The 24-year-old has become a mainstay in Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland side and played a key role in helping the country reach this summer's Euro 2016 finals in France.

McLaughlin joined Fleetwood from Preston in the summer of 2012 and was named player of the season in the 2013/14 campaign when the club won promotion to League One.

The right-back, who has made over 120 appearances for Fleetwood since his arrival at the club, has been monitored by a number of sides higher up the football pyramid.

The likes of Wolves and Nottingham Forest are thought to be admirers of McLaughlin after scouting him intensively for a number of weeks.

Fleetwood are reluctant to lose such a key asset as McLaughlin, but are bracing themselves for interest in the defender this month.
