Burnley midfielder Joey Barton said on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (January 4) that it is only a matter of time before John Stones leaves Everton.
Stones is one of the best young defenders in the Premier League and has been linked with a move away from the Merseyside outfit in the January transfer window.
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United, Chelsea and Barcelona are all interested in the England international and are willing to pay as much as £45 million for his services.
“It’s only a matter of time when Stones goes,” said the former Newcastle United midfielder on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (January 4). "It might be Barcelona next transfer window after the Euros."
“At some stage you need to go and develop,” added the Englishman. “If Barcelona come in for you - I am an Evertonian, I love Everton - and you are a young player, you have to go and test yourself at that level.
"You can’t knock the lad for doing it. If Manchester United come in for you, you have to go.”
The 21-year-old, who can play as a centre-back or as a right-back, is a cultured defender who has already earned seven caps for England.
In 18 Premier League appearances so far this season, the former Barnsley youngster has created one chance, has a pass accuracy of 90%, and has won 25 headers, 17 dribbles and 26 tackles.
During the 2014-15 campaign, Stones scored one goal, created four chances, has a pass accuracy of 90%, and won 59 headers, 22 dribbles and 27 tackles.
