Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Burnley midfielder Joey Barton predicted on The Monday Night Club show on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday evening (January 4) that Victor Wanyama will leave Southampton in the January transfer window.

“I think Wanyama will be sold,” said the former Newcastle United midfielder. “Both teams that are linked with him are crying out for his kind of player. He looks like he wants to move.”

According to a recent report in The Daily Star, Premier League giants Arsenal want to sign Wanyama this month.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has been on the books of Southampton since the summer of 2013 when he joined them from Scottish outfit Celtic.

The Kenya international is one of the better players in his position, and it would not come as a surprise if he gets the move to Arsenal this month.

In 18 Premier League appearances for the Saints so far this season, Wanyama has created nine chances, has a pass accuracy of 82% and a shot accuracy of 22%, and has won 42 headers, 18 dribbles and 41 tackles.

Ronald Koeman’s side are 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 24 points from 20 matches, just seven points above the relegation zone.
