Everton beat Manchester City 2-1 at Goodison Park in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.

Everton will travel to the Etihad Stadium with a slight advantage in three weeks' time in their League Cup semi-final having overcome Manchester City 2-1 at Goodison Park.

Ramiro Funes Mori scored on the stroke of half time before a Jesus Navas equaliser on the counter-attack as the game was approaching the closing stages threatened to makes the sides level for the return leg, before Romelu Lukaku headed home Gareth Barry's cross moments later to restore their advantage.

Their advantage does come at a cost however with Seamus Coleman set to be sidelined for a few weeks as he left the field, meaning Everton had to finish the game with 10 men, while there will be a little concern about Lukaku - who also left the field of play limping.

City threatened in the opening half with a chance from Sergio Aguero, which was saved by Joel Robles, and the Everton stopper was forced into action again in the second half with a fine save from Kevin De Bruyne as City struggled to create any real clear-cut opportunities.
