Don Goodman gives advice to Leeds United's Sam Byram

Leeds United youngster's future is up in the air.

SkySports pundit Don Goodman has urged Leeds United ace Sam Byram to get his future sorted out as soon as possible.

Whether this means staying at the club, or moving on, Goodman advises Byram work to a resolution before his football is affected, as it so evidently was at the beginning of this season.

Byram was dropped from the Leeds side, and has only worked his way back in lately because summer signing Jordan Botaka has failed to impress on the right wing.

Goodman told SkySports: "The fact he didn't sign a contract in the summer maybe put him under pressure and until four or six weeks ago I didn't recognise him from the player I had admired over the last few seasons as a young prospect playing good football week in, week out, whether at right-back or right midfield.

"Steve Evans is getting the best out of him and he has looked the player he has been over the last couple of seasons.

"I think the speculation and contract talk may have had a negative impact. He's only young and the best thing for him would be to get his contract sorted and get his future resolved so he can kick on with what should be a promising career."

Goodman is right to point out Evans influence, with the Scot deserving credit for putting the 22-year-old back into the first team.

The former academy starlet should really consider the prospect of staying put at Leeds even on a short-term deal, but to do this he would require an improved contract offer from owner Massimo Cellino, and this may be something which does not arrive.
