Aston Villa fans do not think much of General Charles Krulak's latest comments...
Aston Villa have a mountain to climb if they are to stay up, but board member General Charles Krulak has made a different analogy.
With the side 11 points away from safety and appearing to be doomed to relegation, Krulak has urged them to show fighting spirit.
The American told The Sun he wanted Villa to use his inspiration as a former US Marine, and insists the hierarchy are not giving up.
“I faced way bigger 'losing battles' than this — and won them. You can’t tell me this is impossible. Three wins in a row and we are back in the mix.
“That’s what Randy believes and what everyone at the Villa believes. The day you don’t believe is the day you quit.
"Let’s just look at Desert Storm. It was 4am and we were standing next to minefields separating Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. There were trenches filled with gas, massive artillery ready to rain down on us and the threat of chemical attack.
"It’s easy to give up but you can’t do that. We fought our way through those minefields and the rest is history."
Krulak and Lerner have faced plenty of criticism in recent months with Villa without a win since the opening day of the season, but at least publicly they are showing a bit of fight.
The problem is not the message, but where it is coming from, and the fact it underlines a disconnect between Krulak and the fans, who are convinced he just does not understand the nuances of the English game.
Here is a look at how Villa fans reacted on Twitter to his comments...
Gen Krulak please shut up about a sport you know nothing about comparing our players to Marines is a pathetic joke #avfc— Nigel Moore ⚽️ (@Moorski7) January 6, 2016
Can we start a GoFundMe for General Krulak to finally get that bit of shrapnel removed #avfc— Matt (@MattH1874) January 6, 2016
I dare Krulak to come and shake supporter's hands in the lower Holte like he used to during games! #AVFC— JustGetItOverWith (@Villa_bloke) January 6, 2016
