Discussing which new striker could still sign for Tottenham Hotspur this month.
For much of this season Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a January move for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, but following the news that the Belgian international has signed a new contract in France that was one name to tick off Mauricio Pochettino’s wish list.
Then there is Saido Berahino – a player who looked like heading to White Hart Lane last summer only for West Bromwich Albion to refuse Tottenham’s advances.
The player’s career has subsequently stalled as he has scored just three goals in 15 appearances this season, not finding the net for the Baggies since mid-October.
And as talented as he remains, it would be no surprise if Tottenham’s interest has waned in the proceeding months.
With that in mind, and with Tottenham still in need of a striker to act as back-up to Harry Kane, there could be only one viable option if Spurs want to sign a new forward this month.
Breel Embolo has been linked with Tottenham himself, with the Mirror claiming back in August that Spurs were favourites for the FC Basel player’s signature. And when you consider they may be able to get him for considerably less than it would cost to sign Berahino, it seems a no-brainer.
Embolo is only 18 so he will be patient for first-team chances – at least more patient than some of the players tipped to join Pochettino’s side this month – while he is a very exciting talent who has already scored 26 goals in 73 matches for the Swiss side.
That is a great record for a teenager and the way things are going, if Tottenham are to strengthen up front in January he could be the only viable option.
