HITC Sports understands Wigan have agreed a deal for the former West Ham youngster.
Wigan Athletic are poised to sign ex-West Ham United midfielder Danny Whitehead from Macclesfield, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Whitehead began his senior career at Stockport County where he made 60 appearances before winning a move to the Premier League with West Ham in the summer of 2013.
The 22-year-old made one first-team appearance for West Ham against Nottingham Forest in last season's FA Cup before departing the club by mutual consent last January.
Whitehead then joined Accrington Stanley on a short-term deal until the end of the season and then made the switch to Macclesfield in the summer.
The midfielder has caught the eye at Macclesfield with several Football League clubs showing an interest in him.
However, Wigan have moved quickly to agree a deal with Macclesfield for Whitehead with the player set to be loaned back to the National League side for the remainder of the season.
