Sam Hutchinson always believed Sheffield Wednesday would be play-off contenders

Sam Hutchinson was encouraged by the additions that Sheffield Wednesday made during the summer transfer window.

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson has told the Sheffield Star that he is not surprised at the progress the side have made this season.

Hutchinson said that he believed Wednesday could make the play offs, as soon as he saw the calibre of player they were bringing in over the summer transfer window.

So far the former Chelsea man has not been disappointed - with Wednesday currently occupying seventh spot in the Championship table.

And Hutchinson said: “I expected this season personally that I’m having and for us to get in the play-offs with the people we’ve brought in. Why not aim to do it?

“We’ve been around seventh for most of the season now. We’ve been unlucky in certain games. We’ve definitely got the squad to do it.”

If Wednesday hadn’t started the season so slowly they would surely have broken into the play off spaces by now.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side have lost just three of their last 19 Championship matches, and they are now considered one of the leading candidates to break into the top six.

As things stand Wednesday are two points behind Ipswich Town, who occupy the last play off spot, and they are nine points back from the automatic promotion spots.

The Owls’ next fixture comes in the FA Cup against Fulham, before they take on struggling Bolton Wanderers in the league.
