Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool need new centre-backs before they think about Ter Stegen and Aubameyang

The former Manchester United defender has been speaking about Liverpool's possible transfer plans.

Former Manchester United player Rio Ferdinand has commented on Twitter regarding Liverpool's squad in terms of potential January signings.

Ferdinand had earlier asked his followers who they would like to see arrive at their clubs this month, and when a Liverpool fan suggested Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the ex-United player could not help but respond.

“You need more than that mate,” Ferdinand wrote. “Centre-backs for starters.”

Liverpool currently have Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure to call on (when all are fit) but their back-line has looked anything but solid this season and it would be no surprise if manager Jurgen Klopp made a move for a new central defender if he can get the right man.

A player like Joel Matip or Mats Hummels would be perfect for Liverpool, but neither is likely to leave midway through the current campaign, leaving Klopp with plenty of work to do in the next few weeks.

Liverpool are currently eighth in the Premier League but next up they face Exeter City in the third round of the FA Cup.
