Reported Sunderland target Jan Kirchoff excluded from Bayern training camp, club confirms negotiations over his future

The German is discussing a move away from Bayern Munich.

Sunderland are currently looking at how they can improve their defensive options for the upcoming Premier League survival hunt.

The club are, according to Sky Sports, interested in signing up Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchoff as a potential solution to their defensive worries.

Kirchoff is a 25-year-old German talent who joined the Bundesliga giants in 2013 after impressing at Mainz.

However, he has struggled for first-team football at the Allianz Arena and spent time on loan with rivals Schalke 04 last season.

Now it seems that his parent club have hinted at his future being away from Munich - after they confirmed he would not be joining the club for their upcoming winter training camp.

The news was broken on the club's official Twitter account earlier today:

Kirchoff will stay at home whilst the rest of the Bayern team travel to Doha in Qatar for some warm weather training during the Bundesliga winter break.

The club website even confirmed that Kirchoff was not present as he was "with his advisors in negotiations on a possible change."

Sunderland are currently 19th in the Premier League table and are currently without Younes Kaboul in the defensive department.
