Report: Sunderland could sell Costel Pantilimon in January

Sunderland are looking to sell a goalkeeper in the January window.

According to the Sunderland Echo, Sam Allardyce is looking to sell a goalkeeper in the January transfer window.

Sunderland now have three stoppers vying for one place at the Stadium of Light, following the recall of Jordan Pickford from Preston North End.

Allardyce wants Pickford to be his first reserve at Sunderland, and it means that one of Vito Mannone or Costel Pantilimon is likely leave in the coming weeks.

Allardyce is open to offers for either of his experienced goalkeepers, as he looks to clear some room for incoming additions.

Pantilimon started this season as Sunderland’s first choice, but Mannone has been given a run of games more recently.

The Italian has looked solid in between the sticks, but Allardyce realises there is little need to have two proven Premier League goalkeepers, who are both on hefty contracts, on the club’s books.

Mannone was linked with Verona in the Sunderland Echo ahead of the January transfer window, but the Italian side have not followed their interest up yet.
