Manchester City and Everton are set to battle it out for Real Betis defender Cristiano Piccini in the January transfer window, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Piccini has been played a key part for Betis this season, making 14 appearances in La Liga, despite still only being 23-years-old.
The full back is comfortable in both an attacking and defensive sense, and he has caught the attention of both Everton's and City's scouts.
The Toffees want to bring in a right-back, as they are fearful of losing Seamus Coleman.
The Republic of Ireland international has received tentative interest from PSG in recent months and, although a deal is a long way off, Roberto Martinez wants to be prepared for the worst case scenario.
City, meanwhile, are keen to snap Piccini up as they expect Pablo Zabaleta could leave in the summer.
Zabaleta has not been a regular pick for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season, and his advancing years means that the Citizens are willing to listen to offers for the Argentine.
