Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign players with Championship experience.
According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa scouts have been told to find players with Championship experience as they seemingly head towards relegation.
Villa sit bottom of the Premier League table with just one win from 20 games this season, giving them eight points - 11 points adrift of safety.
Manager Remi Garde was appointed in November but has still yet to win a game, and Saturday's 3-1 defeat to fellow strugglers Sunderland appears to have doomed Villa.
Fans are already concerned that Villa could end up in the same situation as Leeds after their relegation in 2004, which saw them eventually slip down into League One and have to rebuild the club.
Some supporters may want Villa to swing for the fences and splash the cash this month in a bid to try and stay up, but that doesn't seem to be the plan at Villa Park.
Instead, The Mirror report that Villa scouts have been told to find players with Championship experience under their belt, who are either able to sign this month or join on Bosman free transfers in the summer.
This signals that Villa are seemingly preparing for the drop, and adding players with Championship experience could be vital if manager Garde is kept beyond this season, given that he himself has no experience of the Championship, which can be a cruel division.
Fans may be disappointed to read the report, but with Villa seemingly destined for relegation, it's a much more sensible strategy than throwing money around this month and being saddled with gigantic contracts over the coming years.
