Rangers have tonight confirmed on their official website that they have extended Gedion Zelalem's loan deal until the end of the season.
Zelalem, 18, has long been regarded as one of the top young players coming up through the ranks at Arsenal, and the German-born midfielder is already a regular with the United States Under-23 side.
Tipped for a bright future, the playmaking midfielder needed experience this season, and with no first-team football available at Arsenal, the Gunners decided to send him out on loan to Rangers.
A move to the Scottish Championship was seen as the perfect way for Zelalem to toughen up and learn a different, more physical style of football, and whilst his spell has had its ups and downs so far, he has played his part in Rangers' success so far this term.
Rangers sit top of the Scottish Championship, three points clear of Falkirk and Hibernian having lost just twice under Mark Warburton this season.
Having already landed Maciej Gostomski and Harry Forrester on free transfers until the end of the season, Rangers have now secured Zelalem until the summer too, extending his loan until the end of the season.
After Rangers confirmed the deal, supporters took to Twitter to give their verdicts, with many stating that they want to see more from the teenager in the second half of the campaign after a solid, if unspectacular first half of the season with Rangers.
Others stated that they still don't think he will be a regular at Ibrox, with Warburton having other midfield options at his disposal, but still believe he will be a star with Arsenal.
Here are some of the reactions from Rangers fans on Twitter after Zelalem extended his loan deal at Ibrox until the end of the season...
What you think about Zelalem extending his loan ? Have mixed feelings about him so far.— GersStreams (@gers_streams) January 6, 2016
Hope zelalem is much better in his 2nd half spell with us.— Scott (@ScottWi1son) January 6, 2016
Glad Zelalem extended his stay. Been quiet last few weeks but there's no doubting his quality. Competition in midfield will be interesting!— Alex (@alexcaldy93) January 6, 2016
Zelalem staying is a good thing , neat n tidy player just wish he'd find that killer ball a little more often— Tony Syed (@tonysyed) January 6, 2016
Zelalem has quality, that's clear to see but he's a bit soft, hopefully the way football is played up here will toughen him up a bit— Davie (@AyrBluenose84) January 6, 2016
Zelalem will be a player. He's 18, we've got him incredibly raw. He's going to be Cazorla's replacement.— Gazza (@KingOfIbrox) January 6, 2016
Great that Zelalem is staying however if all fit my starting midfield is Holt Halliday Law— Baz Bowski (@TheBazBowski) January 6, 2016
Not sure if Zelalem deserved his loan to be extended. Hasn't done enough, has set up a few goals but he needs to show more passion.— JOHN BLUENOSE (@RFCtheRELIGION) January 6, 2016
I'd suggest Zelalem playing in a midfield with a proper dedicated defensive mid will allow him to be more expressive than shown recently— Newco Teacakes (@54Beats44) January 6, 2016
