Erik Lamela and Mousa Dembele have been two of Tottenham Hotspur's stand-out players so far this season.
Dembele and Lamela have both had inconsistent times at White Hart Lane, but they have been integral to the Lilywhites success this campaign.
The pair have been regulars in Mauricio Pochettino’s line up, as Tottenham have climbed up into fourth spot in the Premier League table.
And Thompson said: “I’ve not been a great admirer of Dembele or Lamela, but they’re playing.
“They are turning up, not just once or twice. They are turning up every game. This is what makes them.”
Dembele is currently out injured, but his form over the opening few months of the season was hugely encouraging.
The Belgian was dictating games when playing in an advanced or defensive midfield position.
Lamela, meanwhile, finally appears to have adapted to English football - with his performances of the highest quality.
The Argentine wide man is contributing in an attacking and a defensive sense, with his work rate catching the eye.
Lamela already has eight goals to his name for the season, and he looks set to play an important part as Tottenham aim to break into the Champions League.
