Sunderland could be about to sign a new defender from the Bundesliga.
The 25-year-old is predominantly a defender who can also play as a holding midfielder if required, and having failed to play a single minute of Bundesliga action this season it seems he could be on his way to the Stadium of Light.
Kirchhoff missed the start of the campaign with an Achilles tendon injury but now fit, and having been on Bayern’s bench for the last four matches, Sunderland would be signing a player with plenty to prove.
The Mail report claims the defender is already in the North East for his medical and that a fee has been agreed that will see Sunderland pay an initial £500,000 plus bonuses rising to £1million.
The fee is cut-price due to Kirchhoff having just six months left on his current contract at the Allianz Arena and after just 12 senior appearances for Bayern it is no surprise to see him move on.
Kirchhoff has also played for Schalke and Mainz but his recent injuries will mean his proposed medical is particularly thorough.
