Four Championship clubs fail in move for Manchester United ace Paddy McNair

Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers were all interested in the Manchester United defender.

A quartet of Championship sides have been told no, in their attempts to loan Paddy McNair from Manchester United.

The Northern Ireland international made his debut for the Red Devils last season playing at centre-back, and right-back on occasion.

He has found chances harder to come by this season despite the club not strengthening in defence in the summer, and loaning Tyler Blackett to Celtic.

The Times report Fulham, Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers each enquired with Manchester United about McNair, only to be told he is not available for loan.

This is a rare piece of sensible business by Louis van Gaal, who surprisingly loaned James Wilson to Brighton, and recalled Will Keane, who did not score on loan at Preston until December.

It also indicates United are unlikely to invest in a defender in the transfer market in January, and plan to make the best of what they have.
