Derby confirmed the signing of Nick Blackman today, as reported by the official club website.
The 26-year-old forward arrives at the iPro Stadium on a three-and-a-half year deal, having scored 11 goals in 25 Championship games this season.
He is the Rams’ second signing of the January window, following the arrival of Abdoul Camara earlier this week.
Formerly of Sheffield United, Blackburn, Oldham Athletic and Motherwell, Blackman is currently enjoying his most prolific season, and his arrival is sure to improve Derby’s chances of winning automatic promotion.
He is an excellent addition to an already excellent squad, and his ability to play both upfront and on the wing provides quality and cover for Paul Clement to call upon.
At the age of just 26, Blackman still has plenty of years left to develop, and if he can establish himself in the Rams’ side this season he could set himself up perfectly for a strong run in the team when they get to the Premier League.
Following the confirmation of the deal, Derby fans took to Twitter to express their feelings at the capture of a player who can help fire the Midlands side to the Premier League.
Reading fans are having a fit about Blackman leaving them. You can't knock him for having a bit of ambition at a bigger football club! #dcfc— Ash Hardwick (@AshHardwick25) January 6, 2016
I rate Blackman, but 2.5 mil for a player who's out of contract in the summer is a little excessive #dcfc— Craig Nash (@craigjnash) January 6, 2016
If Blackman cost us 2.5 million with only 6 month left of his contract, how much is he worth now at Derby with 3 and a half years? #dcfc— Stefan Broome (@StefanBroome) January 6, 2016
Delighted with Blackman signing, great idea getting business done early, just need to see some outgoings now... #dcfc— Luke Johal (@LukeyJohal) January 6, 2016
