Crystal Palace have been linked with signing Emmanuel Adebayor.
Crystal Palace are considering Emmanuel Adebayor as a solution to their striking problems, report The Mail.
The Mail claim Watford have pulled out of the race to sign the free agent, and that Palace have made contact with the centre-forward.
Adebayor, 31, has not played since last February and was released by Tottenham Hotspur in September, but the North London club are still paying his wages.
The report claims Adebayor's preference is to sign for a club in the south-east of England, and would be keen on Palace.
The club's striking problems were laid bare in their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, with Frazier Campbell offering little up front, in just his sixth start of the season.
Connor Wickham is the only Palace striker to score a Premier League goal this season, and he is currently out with injury, with midfielder Yohan Cabaye their top scorer with five.
Adebayor has a reputation for being difficult to manage, and Alan Pardew's man management skills will be put to the test if he signs, but if he can get back to his best he could be a good acquisition for the Eagles.
Even then, he is not the sort of striker Palace should bank solely on, and should consider alternatives in case he does not work out.
Fans are less than convinced about his potential arrival. Here is a look at the reaction via Twitter...
Not sure Adebayor is a #cpfc player. Club built on tightness of dressing room, he brings nothing but trouble— Chris Waters (@Clapham_Grand) January 5, 2016

Would Adebayor actually be of any use to us considering how long he's been out of the game for & the work rate our team demands #cpfc— Jason Baster (@BasterJason) January 5, 2016
17 minutes of Premier League football in the last twelve months. Yeah Adebayor would be a great January signing?! #cpfc— Famous CPFC (@FamousCPFC) January 5, 2016
I coming round to the thought of Adebayor at #cpfc he scores goals.— Carl Tushingham (@Tushydog) January 5, 2016
Yeah, let's rule out Adebayor because of his rep. Stick with Campbell up front #cpfc— Dave Fleckney (@TheMuscats) January 5, 2016
Adebayor? Tbh, I felt more excited when any of Obika, Iversen, Goodwillie, Stokes or Dickov signed. Happy to be proved wrong though! #cpfc— David Sturges (@DaveSturges) January 5, 2016
