Clyne, Moreno and Mignolet react to Liverpool’s crucial victory over Stoke

Liverpool secured a 1-0 victory over Stoke City in the League Cup.

Liverpool clinched a 1-0 win over Stoke City in the League Cup semi-final first leg.

Travelling to the Britannia Stadium, many expected the Reds too struggle against another team who play direct, attacking football, but their defence stood solid, and Jordon Ibe netted the only goal of the game in the second half.

They did come up against a Stoke team who never really got going in the game, and the victory hands Liverpool the advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield later this month.

It will be expected that the Reds win their home tie, which will see them through to the Final of the competition, taking on either Merseyside rivals Everton or Manchester City - who play the first-leg of their semi-final this evening.

Despite the win, there was one major downside in the game, as three Liverpool players were struck down by injury. Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren were substituted in the first-half due to hamstring problems, before Kolo Toure limped in the final stages of the game due to another hamstring injury.

There is no indication as to how long the injuries will keep the players out for.

Following the game, a trio of Liverpool’s players reacted to the result on social media, with Nathaniel Clyne, Alberto Moreno and Simon Mignolet all praising the superb performance that the Reds put in.

Superb performance by everyone tonight, away fans included as always! Job only half done. #YNWA #cleansheet
