£10m is not enough for Leeds United for Lewis Cook

£10 million is a short term gain for a long term loss and Leeds United should resist offers for Lewis Cook, with Bournemouth interested.

Speculation is increasing regarding the future of Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook, with Bournemouth interested.

The Mail report the Cherries are prepared to open the bidding at £5 million - but double that and Leeds should still not even sell.

There are some players, which, if Leeds are serious about ever reclaiming their place in the top flight - you do not sell.

Lewis Cook is one of them. MK Dons boss Karl Robinson raved about him after the weekend's fixture, and this is a manager who has recently worked with Tottenham sensation Dele Alli.

He told OneMK: "What a footballer Lewis Cook is and he is as talented as I've seen in a long time.

"I love seeing young kids come through and flourish and clubs the like of Leeds United when the academy system and the development system has been fantastic for so many years and successful. He scared me!"

He is not the only one taken with Cook, an England youth international. Successive Leeds bosses have made him a must-pick in the first team, even at the beginning of last season when he was 17.

£10 million would be a lot of money to Leeds, but anybody in favour of a sale, Massimo Cellino included, needs to ask themselves where the £11 million received for Ross McCormack has taken them in a sporting perspective, because results-wise they have not moved forwards.

Bournemouth are a fine club who have achieved great results over the past few seasons, and there is a reason they are in the position they are in. But it will say a lot about where Leeds are right now if the Cherries are able to pinch their best player.

The Whites are one of the best supported teams in the country, and if they have any hope of recapturing their former glory, they need to ensure that fanbase is not disengaged by the sale of the best youngster to emerge through their academy since Fabian Delph.

Cook is special, and he should be priceless to Leeds, and if Massimo Cellino takes the decision to sell it will be a crying shame for the club, and one they will surely regret when the £10 million quickly dries up.
