Napoli are said to be intent on selling the midfielder this month as they seek a deal for Valencia’s Andre Gomes, but so far they have been unsuccessful in their attempts.
According to a report by Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Swansea City offered €22million [£16m] for Gabbiadini's services but the player surprisingly turned down a move to the Liberty Stadium.
Now, the player’s agent is taking matters into his own hands as Sport Mediaset claim he is to initiate talks with West Ham in the hope that a deal can be struck.
“Napoli continues to follow André Gomes, Valencia midfielder," the report reads. "The task is not easy due to his price. The money needed for its purchase could, however, come from the transfer of Manolo Gabbiadini. He refused Swansea, but now his agent will talk to West Ham."
West Ham had an excellent summer in the transfer market, bringing in a number of top quality players such as Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet who instantly made an impression.
However, during Payet’s injury layoff, it became apparent the club had no like-for-like replacement and results dipped, resulting in an eight-game winless run.
Gabbiadini is predominantly an attacking midfielder and offers a real goal-scoring threat through the middle.
The 24-year-old has only made one Serie A start for Napoli this season; therefore it is possible he could be on his way out this month though a move to Swansea seemingly did not capture his imagination.
West Ham, however, have more going for them at present although the Italy international’s expected high price tag could prompt the Hammers to pass up the opportunity to sign him.
