Tony Cascarino says Arouna Kone and Tim Howard are not good enough for Everton

Arouna Kone and Tim Howard have both been regular starters for Everton so far this season.

Tony Cascarino has told Sky Sports that he feels Arouna Kone and Tim Howard are not good enough for Everton.

The Toffees are currently in 11th place in the Premier League table, having failed to live up to expectations so far this season.

And Cascarino claims that they lack the quality in their squad to compete for the Champions League places, even after drawing 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

He said: “Everton got their noses in front and then got pegged but, in fairness, they hung on in there against a better Spurs team. I just think Everton are lacking quality.

“I don't think Arouna Kone is good enough for them and neither is Tim Howard for a side aspiring to reach the Champions League.”

Kone has made a resurgence for Everton this season, and he has started regularly in a role behind the striker.

He established his place in the first team by netting a hat trick against Sunderland, but he has not hit the back of the net since.

Kone has drawn a blank in his last eight appearances, leaving his place under threat - with the likes of Gerard Deulofeu and Kevin Mirallas also competing for a spot in Roberto Martinez’s team.

Howard, meanwhile, has come under a great deal of criticism from Everton fans this season.

The Toffees’ defence has been shaky throughout the season, and Howard’s performances have not been very assured.

Many Everton fans have called for Joel Robles to be given a chance, but Martinez has stuck with the more experienced stopper so far.
