Stan Collymore suggests two transfer targets for Newcastle

Benteke Villa

Newcastle United should go for either former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez or Liverpool man Christian Benteke, says Stan Collymore.

Stan Collymore has suggested on that Newcastle United should make a move for either Javier Hernandez or Christian Benteke in the January transfer window.

Hernandez is on the books of Bayer Leverkusen at the moment, having joined the German club from Premier League giants Manchester United in the summer of 2015.

Meanwhile, Benteke moved to Liverpool from Aston Villa in the summer of 2015.

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Collymore has highlighted the need for a striker for Newcastle, and has suggested that the Magpies should make the move for Hernandez or Benteke.

“Start with one marquee signing, then build a team,” the former England international has written on “No one fits that bill at the moment but sometimes, just sometimes, you have to chime with the culture of a club.

"And for Newcastle, from Wor Jackie to Keegan to Shearer, they love a hero. So give them one! Break the bank for Chicharito or Benteke.”

Hernandez knows the Premier League inside out, having been on the books of United from 2010 until the end of the 2014-15 season.

The Mexico international striker could not establish himself as a regular starter for the Red Devils and failed to impress manager Louis van Gaal before leaving Old Trafford permanently in the summer of 2015.

The former Guadalajara star has been in superb form for Bayer so far this campaign and has been scoring goals for fun.

The 27-year-old has scored 11 goals and created eight chances in 14 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer. In six Champions League games this season, Hernandez scored five goals and created seven chances.

However, Bayer sporting director Rudi Voller has been quoted as saying by that the Bundesliga outfit are not looking to sell the former United striker in January.

As for Benteke, it is unlikely that the Belgium international will want to join a team struggling for survival in the Premier League.

The former Aston Villa star is struggling to score goals for Liverpool at the moment, but one suspects that he will not be willing to swap Anfield for St. James’ Park this month.
