Stan Collymore suggests a January transfer target for Tottenham and Leicester

Stan Collymore suggests Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City to move for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke in the January transfer window.

Stan Collymore has suggested on that Tottenham Hotspur should make a move for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke in the January transfer window.

While claiming that Spurs need to recruit a striker this month, the former Liverpool man wrote: “Simple this one, you don’t win a league with one striker and believe me the way Spurs are playing they are in the title shake up as we speak.

“So go and get a striker to support Kane as it would be a huge shame if they got to April then lost him to injury or poor form. A line leader for me, and again, I wonder if Benteke may be being touted around potential buyers already.”

Benteke knows the Premier League inside out and has proved himself in the English top flight. The Belgium international is a good player, but he is struggling at the moment.

The 25-year-old has scored just six goals and created 19 chances in 17 Premier League appearances so far this season.

The former Aston Villa star does not fit in the current way Liverpool are playing, but that does not mean that it will be easy for Tottenham to sign him.

Liverpool are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League this season, and it is unlikely that manager Jurgen Klopp will sell one of his players to a direct rival in January.

Moreover, Tottenham play with one out-and-out striker, which means that Benteke will be seen as a back-up to Harry Kane. Will the 25-year-old be happy to settle for that? Probably not.

Collymore has also stated that Leicester should make a bid for Benteke.

“There’s half a season left, Leicester have a real profile now so should strike while the going is good because players can be lured by potential European football,” former Liverpool striker Collymore has written. “I’d put in a cheeky £25m bid for Benteke! They may even get him!”

Leicester are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 40 points from 20 matches, just two points behind leaders Arsenal.
