Former Manchester United forward Terry Gibson said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning that Jackson Martinez could leave Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window.
“He has been a massive disappointing so far in La Liga,” said the former Tottenham forward about Martinez. “A lot of money was invested on him and we thought that he was going to be the perfect partner for Antoine Griezmann, but he has had injury issues, he hasn’t been finding the back of the net on a regular basis, and it isn’t unusual for (Diego) Simeone to spend a lot of money on a player and ditch him in the first transfer window.
“He is quite decisive when it comes to making his mind up, and I can understand why there’s speculation about this player."
“He just seems to be really lacking confidence, and it’s going to be an issue whoever takes him if Atletico decide to move him on," added Gibson.
Martinez, who joined Atletico from FC Porto in the summer of 2015, has been linked with Premier League duo Chelsea and Tottenham.
According to a report in The Mirror last month, both the London clubs are interested in signing the Colombia international striker in the January transfer window.
The 29-year-old was expected to be a huge hit in Spain when he moved in the summer of 2015, but he has yet to hit top form for the Madrid outfit.
The former Independiente Medellin and Chiapas star has scored just two goals and created only eight chances in 13 La Liga appearances so far this season.
Martinez has a pass accuracy of 71% and a shot accuracy of 53%, and has won 19 headers, six dribbles and two tackles.
