Reported Arsenal target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang misses Borussia Dortmund training session

A Borussia Dortmund spokesperson has attempted to play down the striker's absence.

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's future at Westfalenstadion is apparently in some doubt after Sky Sports reported that the Gabon international missed a training session following the winter break.

A spokesperson for the Bundesliga giants has claimed that Aubameyang had missed the session due to personal reasons (via Sky Sports), but with the Daily Star claiming that Premier League trio Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are all chasing his signature, the somewhat vague explanation for his absence is sure to have many speculating that a move during this window is on the cards.

It is hardly a surprise that some of the biggest sides from around Europe are considering a move. The 26-year-old has been in incredible form for Dortmund this term, having scored 18 goals in just 17 league games. Nevertheless, with Bayern Munich once again dominating the league - with Thomas Tuchel's side are already eight points adrift - the forward may be considering a new challenge.

His awesome pace would make him a very valuable asset for any team, while the three English sides that are reportedly keen all offer certain appeals that may interest the forward.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League and remain in the Champions League, although they do face a daunting tie against Barcelona in the next round. However, it may well be at the Emirates where competition is at its most fierce.

Competition is much less of a problem in Louis van Gaal's side. The Red Devils look desperately thin in terms of attacking options, and so Aubameyang will know that he would have little trouble breaking into the United side.

Meanwhile, Liverpool cannot be ruled out of the running, despite their disappointing league position. Last weekend's defeat to West Ham has left the Reds 8th. However, a switch to Anfield would see Aubameyang link up with former Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp.
