Newcastle are keen to sign Jetro Willems of PSV, the Chronicle reports.
Chief scout Graham Carr is said to be a big fan of the 21-year-old left-back, and has scouted him personally a number of times this season.
Regarded as one of the best players in the Eredivisie, Willems is also a 16-capped Dutch international, and the Magpies have real plans to sign him.
However, this plan have been shelved until the summer transfer window, as Willems is currently out of action through injury.
The youngster has been recovering from a knee problem which has kept him out of all this season, and he is not expected to be playing again until after the close of the January transfer window.
Due to this situation, the Magpies have opted to put their interest on the back-burner, and the report claims that they will focus on offensive signings this month to ensure their Premier League survival.
They will revive their interest in Willems, at Carr’s insistence, in the summer, as long as the club retain their place in the top flight.
