According to a report in the Daily Mail, Arsenal youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide is set to make his first-team debut for the club when they take on Sunderland this weekend.
Many have speculated that this season is Arsenal’s biggest opportunity to win the title in over a decade, and as such Arsene Wenger is seemingly keen to set his priorities straight.
The Daily Mail report that the North London outfit will rest a number of key first-team stars for the visit of Sunderland this weekend, handing an opportunity to both fringe players and youngsters.
And among those in contention for an appearance is Reine-Adelaide, with the report reading: “Wenger is likely to rest a number of his first-team stars for the visit of the Black Cats on Saturday, with the likes of David Ospina, Calum Chambers, Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide set for starts.
Reine-Adelaide joined the club from Lens in the summer and immediately made an impression in the pre-season Emirates Cup, performing superbly well against Lyon and Wolfsburg.
The 17-year-old has since featured predominantly for the youth teams, though he did manage to make the bench during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion in late November.
Mostly featuring as a winger, Reine-Adelaide is comfortable playing on either flank and has the unique ability of being able to take on opponents both on the outside and by cutting in.
Capped as an U17 France international, the talented youngster has a big future ahead of him and he could play a pivotal role in a potential cup run with the club seeking a third FA Cup in succession.
