Nottingham Forest coach comments on Jordan Gabriel's potential.

Nottingham Forest prospect Jordan Gabriel has been urged to keep his focus and work on his game.

The teenager turned 17 this week and signed a professional contract with the club, and was in action for the under-21 side yesterday.

He helped his side to a 6-2 win against Coventry, but coach Jimmy Gilligan felt there was room for improvement, with the score having been level at half-time.

Addressing the display of Gabriel, he told the club's official website: "It’s very pleasing for Jordan to have earned a professional contract but he needs to put that in the draw now and work hard on his defending.

"He has a great physique for a full back and is a very receptive learner. He has all the attributes to do well."

For Gabriel to be starting games for the under-21s at his age shows he is highly regarded, but the coaching staff evidently feel he is far from the finished article.

The defender has been with the club for almost a year, having joined Forest's academy from Southend back in February 2015.

He has been part of the club's FA Youth Cup side which will play in the fourth round against Birmingham City later this January.
