It's easy to be critical of Rafa Benitez after his Real Madrid sacking. West Ham United fans have poked fun following the Benitez links over the summer. Madrid fans seem delighted their manager is gone. Manchester United and Chelsea fans will no doubt be filled with joy.
But not Liverpool supporters.
Indeed, Liverpool was the club Benitez shared his strongest bond with and where he enjoyed his greatest ever memory. Yes, the Spaniard won La Liga with Valencia, as well as the Europa League, but nothing will compare to Istanbul.
As such, the Reds faithful have shown only sympathy and love for their former head coach. While it's easy to criticise Madrid for appointing him in the first place, there's also plenty of reason to criticise the Spanish giants for sacking Benitez after just 18 league games.
Intriguingly, it's been all downhill for Rafa since he left Anfield. Inter was a bust; Chelsea fans despised him. Napoli was good enough for the tactician - but he wasn't happy enough to stay there when Real Madrid came calling.
Funnily, things haven't been great at Liverpool since his exit, either. Kenny Dalglish won a cup and Brendan Rodgers came agonisingly close to the Premier League title. Fans will hope for more under Jurgen Klopp - but they've found the time to spare a thought for Benitez, too...
