Speaking to talkSPORT, John Hartson has given his thoughts on Adam Lallana, claiming that there is still one main issue which is limiting his impact with Liverpool.
Hartson said: “Whenever I see him play, he looks like he physically struggles. When he gets on the run with the ball at his feet he has ability, and there’s no doubt he has talent. But when he comes into a one-on-one, or a shoulder challenge, he can’t seem to win it. Physically, he still looks a little bit weak to me.”
Hartson has questioned the physicality that Lallana shows when taking to the field with the Reds, admitting that he sees the winger pushed off the ball far too easily for someone considered a top level footballer.
He is extremely talented, as he proved at Southampton and has shown in flashes at Anfield, but all too often he is not able to match up with his opposition defenders due to his weakness.
However, this is an issue with the entire Liverpool side, and not just Lallana. All the players struggle when they come up against so-called ‘physical sides’, and this has led to defeats this season at the hands of Watford, Newcastle and West Ham.
Lallana has not yet proven himself at Liverpool, and Hartson believes he will struggle to make a meaningful contribution on Merseyside until he learns to toughen up and deal with the rigours of the Premier League.
