Taking a look at three Leeds United players who will be hoping to start this weekend.
While the Whites will want to go on a run in the competition, their main focus will be on maintaining their impressive undefeated streak in the league and pushing for a potential play-off place in 2016.
With Leeds manager Steve Evans recently telling the Yorkshire Evening Post he intended to “freshen it up” after the 1-1 draw against MK Dons last weekend, here are three players who could get a chance to impress:
Mirco Antenucci was Leeds’ top-scorer last season despite falling out of favour in the second half of the campaign, but this campaign looks like following the same pattern.
Just four substitute appearances in the last seven matches is not good enough for a player who knows where the goal is and with Chris Wood unlikely to be rushed back from injury Antenucci will be hoping to get the nod over Souleymane Doukara.
There are a lot of right-backs at Leeds right now but the weekend clash could allow 20-year-old Lewie Coyle to make his first start after two cameo appearances.
His most recent, against MK Dons, showed what he is capable of and he is certainly ready to play from the start if Evans takes a punt.
The curious case of Casper Sloth continues with the Danish midfielder yet to make a first-team appearance for Leeds this season and being named on the bench just twice.
The 23-year-old is surely close to the exit at Elland Road but if Evans wants to freshen things up he could do a lot worse than give Sloth a chance.
After all, he excelled at this stage of the FA Cup last season against Sunderland in one of only two 90-minute appearances that campaign.
