Former Tottenham defender named in 'Flop team of the season so far'.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto incurred the wrath of fans of his former club this weekend, appearing to be amused as Tottenham conceded to Everton.
The Cameroonian took to Twitter to write, 'good story on my TV... LOL', before deleting the message amid angry messages from Spurs fans.
The left-back was released by Spurs 11 months ago after they failed to find a buyer for him in the January transfer window, having been made an outcast by Mauricio Pochettino, and earlier Andre Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood.
Yet Tottenham fans less than impressed by the way he has conducted himself over the last two years, may smile at a recent editorial in France, where he now plays his football for Saint Etienne.
French newspaper L'Equipe named Assou-Ekotto in their 'Flop signing XI' of the 2015/16 season so far, reported Canal Plus, with his inability to stop the trickery of opposition wingers a deciding factor.
Assou-Ekotto was joined in the unwanted XI by former Newcastle United centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, and former Manchester City prospect Karim Rekik.
The defender, 31, is at least playing regularly, making 14 appearances so far this season, but his 2016 began with a defeat, with Saint Etienne losing 1-0 to Lille, a game in which he played all 90 minutes - and rather than joke about Tottenham, he ought to have greater focus on his own tasks at hand.
