Report: Oxford United set big asking price for Derby county target Callum O’Dowda

The highly rated youngster has also caught the eye of several Premier League sides.

Oxford United have told Derby County that it will cost them £1 million to sign winger Callum O’Dowda, reports the Daily Mail.

The Rams are keen to secure the highly rated Republic of Ireland Under 21 international ahead of a whole host of competition in England.

That includes interest from the Premier League, with HITC Sport revealing back in December that Liverpool, Everton Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were all interested in him.

Indeed, Liverpool were though to be leading the race at the time and were among several who had had requests to take him on loan rebuffed.

Derby are now however the frontrunners to secure the 20-year-old winger in January according to the Daily Mail.

However, the £1 million price tag may have put them off, with that considered a big price for them to pay to secure a player from a League Two side.

He has been impressive in the division though, with four goals and seven assists to his name already for Michael Appleton’s side.

They currently sit third in the table; just four points off first places Plymouth, and would surely be loathe to lose their prize asset at this stage of the season.
