Roberto Martinez says that it was a joy to watch Aaron Lennon’s performance for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Lennon was brought to Goodison Park from Spurs in the summer transfer window, and he has endured a difficult start to life on Merseyside.
The experienced winger has not featured as regularly as he would have hoped, but he played like a man with a point to prove against his former club at the weekend.
Lennon was a constant menace throughout the fixture, and he got on the score-sheet in the first half of the contest, leading to praise from Martinez in comments posted on the club's official Twitter account.
RM: "Aaron Lennon was very impressive against Newcastle and it's been tough for Aaron. He's been catching up after missing pre-season."— Everton (@Everton) January 3, 2016
Lennon’s goal was a belter, and it had put Everton in front in the contest.
The Toffees were unable to hold on to their advantage though, as Dele Alli scored a wonderful goal to put Spurs level.
In truth it was a deserved equaliser, as Tottenham dominated the first half, but Everton were much improved in the second period.
Roberto Martinez’s side threatened to grab a winner late on, but they were made to settle for a point, which puts them in 11th place in the Premier League table.
