According to a report in The Sun, Preston North End are leading a six-club chase for Manchester United’s out of favour attacking player Nick Powell.
The England U21 international has rarely been involved this season, his one appearance in the Premier League coming as a substitute during United’s 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth.
His contract at Old Trafford is drawing to a close and with no signs of a new deal in sight, an opportunity presents itself for another team to bring him in as early as this month.
“Preston lead a six-club race for the midfielder, who is out of contract in the summer and keen to show United he is worth a new deal by proving himself in the Championship,” the report reads.
Preston are faring well so far on their return to the Championship, currently occupying a safe mid-table spot as they sit ten points clear of the bottom three and ten points off the top six.
Defensively, the Deepdale outfit have performed extremely well this season and adding an extra attacking player or two could see them challenge for a place in the top 10 come next May.
Powell is predominantly an attack-minded player and can feature both in midfield and up front, illustrated by his decent goals-to-game ratio while plying his trade at former club Crewe Alexandra.
