The midfielder has also allegedly caught the eye of La Liga giants Barcelona.

Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Schalke starlet Maximilian Meyer, according to Bild.

The young attacking midfielder is currently one of the hottest young properties in German football, with a bright future expected by many.

He is highly rated in his home country, having already been handed an appearance in the German national side by manager Joachim Loew.

He has been a regular in Schalke’s midfield since breaking through since the 2012/13 season and has 79 appearances in the Bundesliga already under his belt.

Meyer's impressive displays in those games have caught the eye of clubs across Europe and several are thought to be interested in making a move for him.

Among those are Liverpool according to Bild, with the player well known to manager Jurgen Klopp from his time managing Borussia Dortmund.

He may also fancy a move to work with the German as well given his track record of developing young talent while in charge at Dortmund.

They could face stern competition for his services though, with La Liga giants Barcelona also monitoring his development as well as Sevilla and AC Milan.
