The former Tottenham man scored for Everton during a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon.
But this wasn't a bitter former player proving a point, nor was it a man trying to show his old club up. No one, for instance, is saying the north London side should have kept Lennon just because of one goal.
What it was was a great strike from an Everton winger that prompted a respectful celebration against his former side. It was a gesture Tottenham fans will really appreciate.
There are mixed feelings on players not celebrating against their old teams generally. Some feel a goal is a goal and no one should stay silent whoever they are facing.
On this occasion, however, many Spurs supporters were delighted with Lennon's reaction. The 28-year-old did celebrate but didn't go overboard. His muted response was a sign of appreciation for the time he spent at White Hart Lane.
Lennon has always been respectful in the wake of his Tottenham departure. So much so that many felt the club wronged him rather than him letting the side down.
That's why the Everton man got the best of both worlds, scoring an important goal for his current side and being appreciated by his old fans for a great gesture. Fair play.
