Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony responds when asked whether Conor Washington is set for Birmingham City move

Birmingham City are said to be interested in signing Conor Washington from Peterborough United.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony appears to have ruled out Birmingham City’s chances of signing Conor Washington for £1 million.

Birmingham are said by the Daily Mail to be interested in Posh’s star striker Washington with the January transfer window now open, but the League One club are determined not to lose him on the cheap.

Posh have received big money for the likes of Dwight Gayle, who left to join Crystal Palace, and Britt Assombalonga, who moved to Nottingham Forest, recently.

It seems that Washington will command a similarly high fee, which possibly means Birmingham will not be able to afford him.

The Blues will likely have money to spend in January, though, as Demarai Gray appears to be set to move to Leicester City - according to a report on BBC Sport.

Birmingham are likely to be on the lookout for a striker, and Washington’s form has caught their eye.

The 23-year-old front man has scored 12 goals in his last 13 outings, and he netted a belter in Posh’s 3-2 win over Sheffield United at the weekend.

If Washington does join Birmingham, he will be competing with Clayton Donaldson for a place in Gary Rowett’s side.
